Michael

After installing SP4 along with the full cluster of
associated updates, my machine has started rebooting about
90% of the way into the start cycle. The system tray
programs appear to be loading nicely, when poof! It just
restarts from the bios again. This has about a 3 out of 4
frequency of occurence. When I can get it booted, I note
that the CTRL +Alt +Del sequence is disabled! The screen
blinks once and then ignores the command. This will work
in safe mode, so it's not a keyboard issue.

Anyone have an idea of where to start?

Thanks.

I have the same problem but if I am able to boot and the
systems stays up, I will go to IE and after a few minutes
the systems reboots again. Same if I try to use the
CDROM. Have you had any answers.

Totally frustrating!!!!!!!!!

Sorry Kate,
As I scan this message board I see hoards of SP4 update
issues, but little in the way of solutions. My machine
has booted to this point, so I'm leaving it on. I have
uninstalled every non-essential program that I could
identify and it is staying up. I cannot find the root
cause of the CTRL ALT DEL problem.
I tried to reinstall my original SP2 version Win 2000
disk, but it would not install over SP4. What I might do
is back up all my data while this is running, and then un-
install my service packs from the control panel menu.
Eventually I should get back to the stable configuration.
I think I'll use a netscape browser, an antivirus package
and a firewall to manage the security issues, then just
leave the SP2 version alone.
It can't be much worse than the last 3 days of reboots!
Good luck.

BTW, I'm still love to have someone out there post the
real solution to this problem. ... No Mac jokes either!
