Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 4300S, with Windows XP (home edition).....I just
recently installed the latest Service Pack for Windows using Internet
Explorer...and these problems started popping up...(could be coincidental?)

Upon restart the black screen pops up with the C prompt, but the top of that
screen is titled "veclsid.exe".....I can't do anything at the C prompt but
close out of that screen, I took the advice found somewhere on the forum
stating to rename it as 'veclsid.old'...I tried that and it worked but
starting having other problems so I changed it back.

My real problem now is that I have lost access to my 'D' drive..it has
worked fine before and now it won't even show in any of the usual places to
access that drive to save to disc or even play on AutoRun.

Help!

Do I have to do a system restore? I really would like to avoid that as it
took forever for my slow system (dial up) to download the update.

Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

PROBLEM RESOLVED!
I uninstalled the SP3, then did some basic troubleshooting of my cd-rom
drive...it appears that the problem was in the registry files..I got an error
message when I accessed this :"_NEC NR-7800A properties (Code 39)" saying the
device driver may be corrupted or missing.

So, with that in mind I went to www.dell.com typed in the 'Code 39' which
led me to the www.microsoft.com fix titled 'Guided Help'...simple as that, it
fixed it and my cd-rom is now working like usual.

Hope this helps anyone else who may have the same problem.

Help! I get (Code 41), used Guided Help cause it had the same advice as for
(Code 39) Now device mgr says it's working properly, but disc detector says
no CD in drive D. When I try to burn files onto CD, Media Player says
"plug-in driver and resart Player" and Itunes says "no drive detected".
Cannot play or record CD's. NEC NR-7800A. Should I uninstall the driver and
try to reinstall? I'm a novice and afraid of losing stuff. I have original
Roxio CD Creator 5.1 disc. Not so sure of main Dell disc. I, too, have Dell
Dimension 4300 XP '02. Please help! Thanks! JRT
