SP3 Removed

The WINDOWS folder on the C drive now has numerous "$NtUninstall" folders
appearing. My son told me to unistall SP3 a few weeks ago and now these
files appeared. I use a Dell 3000 workstation, Pentium 4, XP Professional,
with SP2.

My son suggested I try to ask you people for help as all my kids live out of
town. I no longer have a warranty.

I have a bigger computer problem but thought I would start with this one
first.

Those "$NtUninstall" folders were hidden when you installed WinXP SP3. Now
that you've uninstalled it (for whatever reason), they're no longer hidden.

If you other problems, please begin a new thread about them.

Those files/folders are not a problem unless you are suffering from a
severe lack of hard disk space.

What is the "bigger" problem??

If the fact that you can see them bothers you, simply disable "Show Hidden
Files and Folders" (Control Panel | Folder Options | View | ...).

When you're ready to install WinXP SP3 again [1] AND you feel that you'd
never need to uninstall WinXP SP2 or any post-SP2 updates, you can reclaim
quite a bit of space by deleting most of these folders prior to installing
SP3. See this page of my colleague Doug Knox's:
http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_hotfix_backup.htm

===============
[1] Some reasons to get SP3 install soon: If you do not have SP3 installed
by next year, the machine will NOT be offered any more critical security
updates. MS is offering free installation and compatibility support for
WinXP SP3 (only) but only until 16 April 2009 (i.e., less then 12 weeks from
today).
