I would be very greatful for help with following problem or suggestions as
to other newsgourps or sources of help I could use.
I have had problems with viewing a local installation of MSDN library for
Visual Studio 6.0 (details below). I have looked at various articles on MSDN
online which suggested that to solve this problem I woulld possibly need a
newer version of HTML help and that on a Win2000 system that the only way to
accomplish this is by making sure that I have the latest Win2000 and IE
service packs installed. I have done this (Win2000 Pro SP3 and IE6 SP1,
which does include a newer version of the help files in a cab file) but it
seems that I still have the old version of the help files on my system.
MSDN reported a successful installation with a custom selection of help
files copied to my hard drive (including the search index file). The problem
is that when I start MSDN most of the links do not work, eg the very first
link to Visual InterDev etc don't work. It reports:
Local disk does not contain the files for "MSDN VS 6.0 Local" as expected.
Pleae update location.
The default location specified is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual
Studio\MSDN98\98VSa\1033\ . This IS where I have installed MSDN (I didn't
change any installation directories, it is all default).
I have tried opening some of the help files from Windows Explorer. One of
the two following things happens:
1 - The help file contents appears but I cannot view any of the pages (just
get a blank page)
2 - The help file viewer does not load and I get a popup message like:
Cannot Open the File: MkMSITStore:C:\Windows\Help\Windows.chm
I have upto now been relying on MSDN online but because I have a slow
internet connection and masses to read, solving this problem is becoming
much more urgent. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
