SP3 and Access with VSS Integration

I installed SP3 for office 2003 and now I cannot build my project from source
safe. Numerous errors result. If I uninstall office and then install SP2, all
works well again.

Anyone else having this problem? If anyone has an idea or fix, please advise!

Thanks!!

Cory -

You have found a bug that is currently unknown to MS. Could you put together
a database that reproduces the error and email to me? You can find an email
address for me at www.accessmvp.com/KDSnell

I then can provide the database to MS programmers to test and evaluate. Be
sure to include directions on how to "create" or "see" the error in your
database example.

Thanks.

Hi Ken,

I just sent you an email with files that illustrate the error. Please let me
know your thoughts!!

Thanks!!

Cory

Thanks; I have sent those files to MS for review.

I just installed SP3 and have the exact same problem with creating the Access
2003 project from SourceSafe! I keep getting messages like "Failed to import
file fully_qual_formfile.ACF" for a number of forms.

Hey Tim,

The only way I got around it was to completely uninstall Office 2003,
reinstall it from CD, then reinstall SP2 instead of SP3.

That gets you back on the road, but obviously without the fixes contained in
SP3.

I sent a sample file to Ken. Hopefully they will have an answer for us soon!

Microsoft believes it has found a temporary workaround, and has asked if you
would try it and let us know if it "fixes" the problem for the moment:

1. Open the file in SP2

2. Check out all of the objects in the db

3. Install SP3

4. Open the file in SP3

5. Check in the objects

Let us know. Thanks.

I will be looking at Ken's workaround, but I was wondering about your
workaround. After uninstalling Office 2003 and re-installing - how do you
update to just SP2 and not to SP3?

Assuming that you do not have any of the SPs stored on your PC as executable
files, you would reinstall Office 2003 from the CD, go to Microsoft Update
website ( http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/default.aspx ) and
let it tell you that you need all kinds of updates. Deselect SP3 options
from the items presented, then download and install the remaining items.

Ken, I started with our Enterprise SMS "re-package" (created late 2005) of
O2003 SP2 (11.6566.8132 SP2). When I went Office Update on the web, the
individual updates were limited to just the O2K3 SP3. The many SP2 updates
that were there a month or so ago were no longer available as selectable
updates (the ones that were then available to my colleagues who started with
the same SMS re-package).

I can't seem to get there from here - as they say.

Addtional info - we have about 20 good-sized access projects in VSS and I
consistently get "The search key was not found in any record" and "Failed to
import" messages on a half-dozen or so forms in a couple of the projects.
Some very similar projects (a major version earlier) get created without
error. I have some of my colleagues test creating the DBs that I get the
errors with and they don't have a problem (they updated their SP2s to all the
latest available updates as of Sept 10).

Hi Ken,

This seems to work much better. I haven't yet resumed development yet, but I
can now at least build my project from 2003/sp3, which is where the problem
was.

Thanks to you , and also pass on my thanks to the MS team that worked on this.

Hi Tim,

if all else fails. I have a complete install package I downloaded from
technet. I would be happy to give you. (I assume that would be legal since we
are both legal users of the product.)

Let me know if you would like it. Either way, good luck on getting back up
and running!

Cory

Ken,

I should probably clarify here: I can give you the SP3 package, but you
would need an "original" package of Office 2003.(obviously that I can't give)

Sorry for any confusion here. I guess I was too anxious to hit "send"!

Cory

Thanks for the reply about the results of trying the temporary workaround. I
have passed those comments on to Microsoft, and have given them your thanks
too.

Correction -- this is *THE* workaround. It's not a temporary one, it's the
permanent one, apparently. A KB article will be written about this problem.
