There than security which I pretty much have taken care of, is there a
good reason to get the SP2 patch to XP?

Looking at the features, there doesn't seem to be anything I really
need.

IE/OE far more secure. ALot of unnecessary services turned off. Windows
less prone to being hijacked.

In fact, XP2 will break your Compaq, and, some OTHER brands of computers!

Compaq didn't announce the problems in SP1, until over a month after SP1
was released. SP1 has NEVER been released for Compaq.

Run Mozilla browser ( http://mozilla.org ), a hardware firewall, adaware
( http://lavasoft.com ), spybot S&D
( http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html ), and 'SHOOT THE
MESSENGER' ( http://grc.com )!

Or, simply switch over to GNU/Linux. Try one of these LiveCDs, first,
to see how you like it:

Also, we use one of these to bring up any newly repaired computer, or
built system, the first time...

Not from what I see. SP2 seems to have been put together for people who
don't know how to secure their machines. WMP 9.0 is required and you get a
pop-up blocker in IE. IMO, the SP doesn't go far enough to secure newbie's
machines and is a Band-Aid approach. This idea of hard locking attachments
is designed to protect idiots form themselves. _This_ is what it has come
to...

I've always considered Compaqs to be "pre-broken" from the factory.

I installed SP2 and the only problem I had was with DivX...I had to
remove DivX until it is updated...
Since installing SP2 my computer seems be being running better...it
takes a little getting used to the new functions with IE downloads and
pop up blocker...but I am getting used to it...
For me it has been worth it...and this time MS did not call it "Win XP
Second Edition" and grab more money from us ;-)
