SP2

I installed the SP2 update. It slowed my computer to a crawl. I uninstalled
then defragged. My computer fine now. I am concerned that without this
update, my computer is vulnerable. Also, I keep getting the popup to install
this update. Questions: How can I be more safe without SP2 or how can I
install it and also run at a high speed? How can I keep my computer from
prompting me that this update needs to be installed?
