SP2 without firewall component

Hi,

I built an image without SP2 firewall (this is needed to use on my device a
kind of OPC by "Softing").

Now, without firewall, the device can see other machines connected by
network, but from the network is not possible to see the device.

What should be the mistake?

thank you in advance.

What do you mean by other devices on the network can't see the XPe device?
Can they ping the XPe device? Are all these devices in the same workgroup
or in a domain environment? If these devices need to access shared folders
on the XPe device, then the XPe image has to be built with the "Networking
with File Sharing and Client For MS Networks" component.

Hi KS,

No, is not possible to ping the device from the workgroup. I set the device
as DHCP and I connected it to the network. My laptop is logged on in a
domain, but the DHCP set the address to the device correctly (I checked it by
ipconfig) and it should be possible at list to ping it...

Anyway, I need to share folder: so I need to add some component? When I
removed firewall I followed the steps on MSDN on-line for XPE, and I removed
also the network sharing component...

For basic networking functionality, you need to include the "Basic TCP/IP
Networking" component which provides the TCP/IP stack and the dhcp client.
If you need to access shared resources on other Windows computers on the
network, need "TCP/IP Networking with Client For MS Networks". If other
computers need to access shared resources on the XPe box, need "TCP/IP
Networking with File Sharing and Client For MS Networks" component. If you
can't ping the XPe device were the image was at least built with the "Basic
TCP/IP Networking" component and firewall is turned off then there is
probably a networking issue. You can use the same tools for XP to diagnose
networking issues. (ping, ipconfig, netsh, etc). There are many articles on
MS site, an example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314067.

Hi KS.

All right with network configurations. The device can ping itself and
all other machines on the network.
The thing strange is that the network connection icon has the lock that
indicates the firewall active, but the firewall properties cannot be
accessed 'cause the firewall component has not included in the
configuration.

Could be this?

Maybe some local policies?

Basic TCP/IP Networking component is included, TCP/IP Networking with
Client For MS Networks is included and TCP/IP Networking with File
Sharing and Client For MS Networks is included also.

Thank you.

I believe that in SP2 the firewall is on by default, whether you have
included the Firewall control panel or not. Check the settings of your
Core Networking componetn - the top tickybox (yay! tickybox! *ahem*)
will be Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) which you'll
need to untick to get rid of the firewall. You'll also need to get rid
of the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) component
itself. Or leave it in and set it to always be off.
