I was previously using SP1, but then i had to switch to SP2. all was
well, but when i clicked on the security center, or other "new" SP2
components, my system locks up. I then tried rebooting to troubleshoot
it, using DirectX. Even when i tried using the DXDIAG, it still locks
up. i tried reformatting my pc, but still, the same thing happens. I
had the vid card repaired from the supplier twice, but still having
problems. im confused now.. jeez. hope sumbody helps.. thanks..

SP2 has a habit (at least I've found this and seen it on many occasion) of
"Twealling the BIOS". Try looking at BIOS settings for things like "Video
Probing", Memory RAS and/or CAS (Row address Select and Column address
Select) features. I know it sounds wierd (and it is), but I've changed
memory timing and/or video probing options and voila - magically things
work.

Another thing to try (again it's wierd), disable USB Legacy Support (and
other non-discript type options).

I suggest these because your post says that you (essentially) nuked the
system and are starting from scratch. This suggest to me that a BIOS or
hardware setting has change. I think it's obvious that it's NOT a Windows
Issues as it's not even installed yet.

Hmmm...

Hope this helps.

Wiley.
