I'm looking to reinstall windows as it needs to be repaired. My
reinstallation CD doesn't include SP2. Is there a way I can install SP2,
perhaps from an .exe file, without downloading it from windows update, as I'd
prefer to install SP2 before setting up my network?

Hello James

Just a thought. Why not download the SP2 to a CD before doing the Reformat\Repair install. Or ask a friend to do it for you .
You will need the SP2 on a media. There is no other way if you do not have it at present.

You can download SP2 here and burn it to a CD.

Once XP is installed run the SP2 installation from the CD. If you go this
route DO NOT HAVE YOUR COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE INTERNET until you have SP2
or a firewall installed. The Internet connection needs to be physically
unplugged. Without an active firewall there is a very good chance you will
be infected with a worm during the install.

If your reinstallation CD is a standard Windows XP CD and not a OEM restore
CD then you can create a XP CD with SP2 slipstreamed into it.

Unless you have a really fast connection, get the sp2 update from MS if
they are still giving it out (it's free). Otherwise someone could send
you one or a copy, it's legal and MS encourage passing on the cd.

Hello Alias

And the person should wait a few weeks before receiving it? If he needs it now then downloading it to a CD will do the job

If the need is now, of course, you're right, although I hear delivery is
more like three days, not weeks.
