Now that the new O/S's are coming bundled with SP2 within the install, is
there a way of preventing the install of SP2?
I have a few computers that need the XP Pro O/S and will be purchasing the
O/S, but do NOT want to deploy the SP2 update. All the new version of the O/S
come with SP2 What are my options
Thanks, Justin

If SP2 is already installed, you cannot uninstall it
from an OEM PC. Your only option is to learn how
to properly deploy SP2 in your environment.

Justin;
If you do not want SP-2, do not buy a version that includes SP-2.
If you do, there is no way to remove SP-2.

Have you got any CDs which contains only the first release of XP (SP0) or with SP1? If so, then go ahead and buy what is available just to get the 25 digit serial number. You can always use the same CD you have for installation but using the new serial numbers that come with SP2 versions.

If not, you can still buy SP1 versions from OEM vendors. Search using google (or subscribe to spam messages) to see which monkey is still supplying. to subsribe to spam messeges you just have to use your correct email address on these newsgroups (use about 10 to post test messeges) and spammers will put you on their list. It is a free service.

If you can't find any vendors then you can send a message to Novatech. The website is:

http://www.novatech.co.uk

where you can find contact page and ask for SP1 version OEM Operating system. It costs £85 but it is in fact a retail pack that means you can upgrade, format etc etc. Mention that Dave Senior recommended the site on M$ Newsgroup.

If you are in London, I can copy a CD for you for £10. I have all of them - SP0, SP1 & SP2. If you want serial numbers then you need this site:

http://www.serialarchive.com

The above site has the blessing of Micky [Mouse] Stevens.

Hope this helps.

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.
