I have been waiting for SP2 since its release and finally have it
installed.... however after reading the large number of posts in regards to
problems I was actually anticipating have some sort of major problem... I
created a restore point prior to beginning the install and fully well
figured I would need it... well I am pleased to say it installed and
rebooted with not 1 problem or glitch.. I have shut off the Windows Firewall
as I use Sygate .. it recognized my AVG virus software and reported on its
status ... whew .... thought a report of a successful install would help for
those that have been reading all the other problems.... Dave

I too, have had no problems with Sp2 whatsoever. I have
installed it on both my home computers, one of which is
wireless.

Same here, was a little nervous but I installed from a CD I had from a
friend. It took about 30 mins to install on my system which I had
diskcleaned, defragged and made my own restore point, plus I was up to
date with all critical updates.
So far everything looks OK but haven't tried out all my apps yets <g> It
recognized my Zone Alarm Pro so turned off the inbuilt firewall, didn't
know about my AV, I run Nod32 but that was no problem to tell it I would
monitor it.
I have a Athlon 1.8 running 256mb ram with onboard sound and video, so
fingers crossed, I still have my DH's machine to do which is a emachine.

If you feel adventurous, download and install the latest NOD32 beta.
It contains code to report its presence and status to the Windows
Security Center.

Get it here: http://www.nod32.com/download/downbeta.htm

Even though it is a beta, it is very stable. Don't forget to download
the correct file -- there are two: one if you already have a
commercial. (paid-for) version of NOD32, and one if you want the trial
version.

Although you might wait a few days: there is supposed to be an updated
beta on their site soon. The current beta is 2.0.11b. The upcoming
updated beta will be 2.0.12b.

If you have the commercial version, enter your userid and password for
on-going updates.

Thanks Donald I had read about the beta but will steer clear of that kind
of thing on here <g> I will await the final version which I believe may be
in September, and I do have the paid for version. It's no problem I just
told the control centre I would monitor it myself, and NOD is set to
automatically download updates, it's done one since the install of SP2.

Glad to hear everything went so smoothly. For everyone who is a little
nervous about updating, please take a look at the following recommendations
from Microsoft before you begin:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/sp2_whattoknow.mspx
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/oemlinks.mspx

Also please review the following webpages for a list of software products
that may require an update before or after upgrading to SP2
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;ln;xpsp2swhw

Bottom line:

1. Make sure your system is up to date with with Microsoft patches and
critical updates
2. Make a full back up of your system including an Automated System
Recovery (ASR) disk
3. If you using Office 2003 make sure you have updated to the latest
service pack
4. Check with the manufacturers of the hardware and software you use to see
if any updates are required.
5. Review the SP2 Support Center -
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;windowsxpsp2
6. Update away
7. If all else fails, call 1-888-SP2-HELP during business hours for free
technical support from Microsoft.
