How can I abort this download that I began in Automatic
Update? I've decided I'd rather get the CD, but I see no
way to stop the process that's already begun. Thanks.

This may be moot now -
Control + Alt + Delete = restart your machine.
Aborting an install like SP2 during the download process works
but during the installation process will cause you issues.

Please report back which it was.

I am not yet to the installation stage. (I have Update set up so I have to
install manually.) Actually, I'm not sure I'm even still in the download
stage. The Update icon appears continuously in my notification area, showing
0% downloaded, and it comes back every time I restart. I would like to get
rid of the icon so I'm more confident that no downloading is going on. Until
this episode, the icon only showed up when necessary and in use.

Hi, Jeff -
Does your issue persist?
