On page http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/default.asp
the first update listed is .NET Framework Service Pack 2. This provides the latest updates. I downloaded it, but it refused to install itself. The error message is

I just love reading and retyping error messages like this. It would be too decadent to let the mouse do copying and pasting from them, right

The installations of Windows XP Professional SP1, Visual Studio .NET 2003, and Visual Studio 6 SP5 are all Japanese. The download of .NET Framework SP2 is Japanese. Only the installation of the MSDN LIBRARY is English. The installed version of the .NET Framework came automatically with the installation of Visual Studio .NET 2003, did it not? I do not see what the problem is with the Windows Installer version or SP2 version

There are two menu entries for .NET Framework Configuration and two menu entries for .NET Framework Wizards in Administrative Tools. (I enable Administrative Tools in the Start Menu, though I understand Microsoft recommends a more tedious access via Control Panel.) Anyway, the two entries for .NET Framework Configuration both bring up the same MMC console snapin. Only the labels are different, one in Japanese and one in English. The snap-in itself is in Japanese either way. The version information is 1927 only, not a string of four numbers separated by periods

(Hmm, I've just recalled that the Platform SDK, February 2003 is language-neutral. But no, that's irrelevant, the Platform SDK gets its own Start Menu entries and they're all in English.

(This is not the old SP2 upgrade. The old one is .NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 2, which is listed about half-way down the page.

I just downloaded the English version and it installs properly. Maybe your
download was corrupted somehow? Try again later.

Hi,

Thanks for posting.

Although I cannot read the error message you pasted, I think I have some
general idea on this issue.

The Service Pack 2 you downloaded is for .Net Framework 1.0. It will only
install if you have .Net Framework 1.0 installed. On the other hand, the
.Net Framework budled with VS.Net 2003 is of version 1.1. As a result, the
installation of the Service Pack fails.

Currently we still do not have any service pack for .Net Framework version
1.1. I hope the information is useful to you.

Same results as yesterday. I also did an "fc" command to compare it to yesterday's download and it detected no differences. From the length of time it took to download, I'm sure it was a new download and not a copy from my employer's web cache.

Hi,

As I mentioned in another post in this thread, the Service Pack is for .Net
Framework 1.0, instead of .Net Framework 1.1. You mentioned the following:

"This is not the old SP2 upgrade. The old one is .NET Framework 1.0
Service Pack 2, which is listed about half-way down the page."

If you click the links, you may find that the 2 links actually point to the
same location.

I hope this helps.

I wish I could paste it. This error, and at least one (unrelated) VS .NET error which I haven't posted yet, do not permit the mouse to copy and paste from them. They require human reading and retyping. I am glad to see that you think pasting should be possible; please see if you can persuade your employer to make that a policy

The Service Pack 2 you downloaded is for .Net Framework 1.0. It will only
install if you have .Net Framework 1.0 installed

That explains why it didn't install. Thank you. If you look at the wording near the top of pag
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/default.asp
then you will surely agree that the instructions there need fixing.

Hi,

Thanks for your feedback. To summary your points, there are rmainly 2
issues:

1. It will be best if we can Copy & Paste the error messages shown in the
dialogs.
2. The following page is confusing. It should be clearly stated that the
service pack is for .Net Framework 1.0.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/default.aspx

If I have misunderstood you, please correct me. I will submit these
comments to our MS Wish site. Improving the quality of our products and
services is a never-ending process. We really appreciate your suggestions.
