SP2 and Networking

I have a small business with a small 3 computer network. One machine runs
2003 server, another XP Home and the other is 98. The network has been hooked
up and running through a Linksys router for about 4 years and everything was
fine, until the XP Home machine had a motherboard failure. I had a computer
friend put in a new motherboard and in the process he installed SP2. Now I
can access the two other computers fully from the XP Home machine but the
other 2 machines can only see the shared folders on the XP Home machine and
cannot access them. When you try to access them a window will pop up saying
that the files are not accessible, access is denied. I have tried many things
to try and fix this problem but nothing has worked. One thing that I noticed
and I think has something to do with the problem is that the shared folders
are checked read only and if I uncheck them and click ok then come back to
look at it again it is once again checked read only.
I am contimplating uninstalling SP2 because this is really starting to tick
me off, but the guy that put it in says that uninstalling might fix the
problem or might not or might make things worse. He also a said that there
should be a way to get this to work. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Do not uninstall SP2. What has most probably happened is that the
Windows Firewall which comes with SP2 is active and not configured
properly. If you are running a third-party firewall, make sure the WF
is not active and you've configured the third-party firewall to allow
the lan as trusted.

Read Only is not applicable to folders in XP; if you look more closely
you will see that the option is greyed out, indicating that it is not
applicable/available.

If you have your firewall settings correct, then here is an excellent
network troubleshooter by MVP Hans-Georg Michna. Take the time to go
through it and it will usually pinpoint the problem area(s) -
