sp1a slows system & doesn't allow brodband connection

I installed SP1a patch and now my system is really slow and can't connect to my brodband connection. Has anyone ran into this. I have a custom built system. 1.8 AMD, 512 RAM, 64m video, DVD-Rom, DVD-RW,CD-RW,onboard NIC.
 
Try this:

In Device manager, remove your Network card. Then go back
and re-detect it.

I had the same problem, and this worked for me!
