SP1 Not Offered Question

I have tried to install SP1 both by going to the update site and downloading.
It is not offered at the update site to me. I keep failing when running the
download. The error is "corrupt data" I believe. Anyway my question is, would
having changed the motherboard since I activated Vista cause this kind of
problem?? I know the activation is tied to a combination of the hardware and
the product id. I had totally forgotten I had changed the motherboard due to
a problem I thought the old MB was causing. Thanks in advance for any input
on this.

Just wondering...have you tried downloading
the complete file to a folder on your hard drive
and installing from there?

Don't "believe" it, post the entire error.

Ah finally I can reply, just kept getting errors before when I click on
"reply". I think our firewall.

Yes I did download and try to run the update from the local drive.

Thanks for responding.

Hi Gordon,

I am sorry I am not at home where the PC is that is having the problem. I
did a search and found "0x8007000D ERROR_INVALID_DATA " which is the error
it would error out on.

Thanks for you interest.

Vista once again proves it is CRAP! Same problem.
After installing SP3 on my XP computer with no problems,I thought I'd tackle
Vista sp1 (OMG!)What a friggin nightmare.First I couldn't find it in
updates.Oh,that's right,I had 1 of the problem drivers(SigmaTel).After
uninstalling it,walla,SP1 magically appears in updates. After going thru the
hour long update,It informs me SP1 not installed will undo update(which took
another 15 minutes).Going to MS Help&Support, they recommend stopping all
startup programs, etc.,I try once again.Same thing!Do you have to be a
computer scientist to install this? It's amazing-XP SP1-3,NO PROBLEMS, Vista
SP1 BIG PROBLEMS!
I can't wait for their next operating-Windows BC(before computers)
I should have bought a Mac!

spjr2,

Sorry to hear of your tribulations. To be honest I don't really have any
isssues with Vista itself just thought I should get the SP1 installed for
GP's. I am strating to think that perhaps because I replaced my motherboard
and I think also the video card I changed the hardware profile enough which
is part of the activation process. No one is confirming this but I can't see
any other reason. Best of luck to you.

The mysteries of computers! I checked my Vista properties once I got home
yesterday to verify if Vista was still activated or not. It is and I got a
"update available" message. I checked to see what update it is and it was an
update to Silverlight. I installed it then another update message popped up.
I check again and now Service Pack 1 is available and highly encouraged! I
allowed install and crossed my fingers. It went in and is installed. Why I
went through all the problems before I don't know but it is now working.
Hmmm, guess Microsoft or Vista or whoever isn't really as evil as some
believe. :) Best of luck to everyone still fighting this fight.
