I canot install SP1 due to an error involving spider.exe
in the system32 directory. The OS complains that the file
is in use, and won't install the SP. Has anyone else come
across this?

Can you also reply to my email adrress if you can help.

TIA Gerard

The machine hasn't sufered from the MSBlaster virus but I
wanted to load the SP and the MS patch to prevent it.
So I hvae only just found out that I cannot install the SP.

sounds like another virus...I would put up my xp firewall
and then run a virus scan! spider.exe doesn't sound like
a program I would want to run on my computer! After I
quarantined spider.exe or deleted it I would then
uninstall and reinstall the program it was in...

Good luck!

The problem is inherent in the machine I was merely trying
to circumvent getting the blaster virus and needed to
install SP1 before installing the patch.

Cheers Gerard

Spider.exe is actually a MS application resident in the
system32 directory, although I am not sure what it does,
the system has been virus checked and comes up clean.

Any other thoughts?

Cheers Gerard
