Background: 500MHz AMD-K6-2 on FIC VIA chipset Motherboard
with 512MB RAM with W2K and up to SP3 installed, no
problems until disk crash, then could no longer reboot.
Installed new 32GB drive and loaded W2K fresh on NTFS file
system. Upgraded all critical security patches recommended
by WinUpdate and then tried to install SP4 upgrade.

Reboot system at end of install and system showed
following blue screen error:
0X0000001E KMODE exception not handled
8046749B base at 80400000
Datestamp 384d9b17 NTOSKERNEL.EXE

Tried to reboot again and system comes to a complete halt
(bar at base of Windows loading icon stops) about halfway
into load. No errors, just hangs and does so exactly the
same way insubsequent loads.

Now running after SP4 was uninstalled. Any ideas . . .
anyone?
