W2K Server w/ SP2
About 3/4 of the way through an install of SP4 it
rebooted and then came up with the BSD with the error
Stop C0000135 Dynamic Link unable to locate DLL. It would
then auto reboot in a few seconds get part of the way
through W2K Intro screen and come up with the same blue
screen and error, and continue the loop until you shut
down the PC. It would not start in safe mode or "last
good setup. . ". I was able to do a repair and get
Exchange back so everyone could use the email, but still
have problems.
When you try to open Word or Excel it say Preparing to
install, then Problems with Shortcut another install is
in progress. If you try to open Active Directory you get
the same messages. If you try to reinstall MS Office
nothing happens and when you go to Task Manager it says
MS Office XP not responding.
Is this going to require a complete reinstall of W2K
server? If so would it be better to move on to Server
2003?

You can do a manual repair on only the file system. You
have to run it twice. For some reason it doesn't take on
the first shot.

1-boot to w2k setup cd
2-hit R to repair
3-hit R again for repair Windows 2000 install
4-hit M for manual repair
5-make sure that the only box X'd is Verify Windows 2000
system files.
6-hit L
7-hit ENTER
8-repeat steps 1-7
9-it will scan and return following: Setup has determined
that the file: <filename> is not the original file that
Setup copied to the Windows 2000 install. At this
point>hit A for repair all. This will back rev the system
files and when the PC reboots will allow you to get back
in to Windows.

*Note* You will need to re-add rights to the Fonts
directory...for some reason it removes them. I haven't
found any other directories that have this problem yet.

**Note** You can now run a cd version of service pack 4
but one thing you will need to do that is important...re
apply all of your critcal security patches. Running the
above steps back revs all of your system files that had
been upgraded including the ones from the patches.

GOOD LUCK!
