SP-2 Screen going temporarily black

I installed SP-2 and since have had problems with the screen going black for
a few seconds (as many as five or so) with a square white cursor.

I've got an Athalon 1.8 with 738ram. When I run my security software
updates, this happens more often. It didn't matter whether I had my
antivirus software installed or not.

What gives?
 
Randomly when the machine is up and running. I'm running Trend Micro's PC
Cillin. --db
