SP 1 installation

I have spent the better part of three days to update a
computer where I installed XP Pro. There are 40 critical
updates and numerous driver and recommended updates,
however, when downloading and installing the SP1 I make
it to the end and then the connection to the install site
fails. This is a new download and should not give me this
kind of problem. Anti virus is disconnected to keep from
interfering in the installation. Is there a download
where I do not have to be connected to the Internet and
get bounced after spending hours of trying to install?

Thank you,
Maya

Hi Mike

Is it possible to (legally) download SP1 as opposed to SP1a still?

Will

Will,

The only answer I can give is :-
Microsoft cannot supply SP1 as it contains Java components that were
required to be removed as a result of various legal actions. Microsoft only
supplies SP1a for download or on other distribution media.

I realise this is a bit vague.
I can make no comment as regards other locations that may hold files for
download by Internet users.

Hi Mike

Not vague at all - it wasn't a 'catch' question - I understand your posting, thanks.
