I bought a Soyo SU-SM card reader/writer for my girlfriend for a christmas
present to use with her AMD 1.2 gig xp pro system and Olympus digital
camera. It wouldn't work there, so I tried it at my house on my AMD 2.6 gig
xp system, and a win98se system, PII 336 mmx. It didn't work on them
either. The Smart Media card is good. It works in the camera and in my PQI
multi function travel flash read/writer. In all 3 sytems, windows sees the
drive as an external drive, but says there is no media in the reader.
Any ideas much appreicated.

reader is self powered or USB powered?
Does the drive end up in 'other devices' in the device manager?

Were there any drivers to install? The last card reader I hooked up
didn't need drivers for XP but did need them for any pre XP system. I've
never used a Soyo but I've seen a few readers that just flat out didn't
work. I've always had good luck with Sandisk readers though if you
decide to get another one.

USB powered

No. I didn't see a listing 'other devices'
In the USB dropdown list the first listing is
USB mass storage device.

It's getting power because it has a small green LED that
blinks when it's plugged it. It's a steady blink, about
1 blink per second.

Thanks for your reply.

XP saw it and loaded drivers for it by itself.
For the win98 system I had to load the
driver for it from the CD that came with it.

hmmm.... that's not encouraging at this stage of the game.

Thanks for the tip. I helped a friend install a Sandisk reader
once, and like your experience, it worked properly the first time.
