When I try to install w2k SP4 by using group policy it refuses to do so. In
the log it says that the source is unavailable.

I created a share called W2KSP4, all users have sufficient acces (read),
domain admins have full control. In this share is a dir called i386, which
contains the SP files. In here is a dir called update, with the update.msi.

The users should have the correct rights on the policy.

I can't find the error on the microsoft knowledge base.

Hi Evan,

Are you assigning it to a computer or publishing it to a user?

If you are assinging to a computer, please enasure that you have sufficient
access (atleast read) for the computers on the msi share. The msi would be
installed in the computer context and hence needs access to that share. You
could always use "authenticated users" (includes user and computers) and
give them atleast read access (share and NTFS).

- other considerations:

1. ensure that the share is not on a machine which is in different forest as
the client
2. share is not on a cluster (if yes, cluster should have kerberos enabled)
3. share is not on an NT4.0 machine

Hi Sabin,

The SP is assigned. I am testing it in myself and gave myself the correct
share permissions. The domain only has one forest and the share ain't on a
cluster. Neither do we use NT4.0 in our domain.

When the PC is starting it applies policies and before the logon screen it
says rather fast "Installing software" or something like that, and than the
screen jumps on to the logon screen instead of starting to install.

Sincerely

EvB
