Source of "spam" added to headers?

A friend has mysteriously acquired something that causes much of her friends'
mail to be identified as "spam" and the header is changed to include the word
"spam", when she replies to their messages.

She tells me her Anti-Virus program is Trend Micro, and she is using WinXP-PRO,
and Outlook v.9 to send mail. Does anyone know if one of these is causing this
new phenomenon, and what settings she should be looking for?

Or is it more likely her ISP has added a program that does this? I thought not,
because this mail is not being *filtered* into a spam box, it is just being
identified as spam. Any advice will be appreciated.

Does Trend Micro have some sort of spam application/scanning built in? I
have no idea as I don't use it but if it is you can just shut it off.
There's no need for extra scanning and it tends to break things. Files will
be scanned when opened and any reputable AV software will not allow infected
files to be opened.

More likely your second guess is correct. The ISP is probably filtering it
and adding the spam to the header to make it so that she could filter it on
her own with her email client. Contact the ISP and have them turn it off or,
more likely, she can control this via their web interface if they have one.

Thanks, Galen. After getting more info from her and doing some research I did
find out, it is her Trend Micro anti-spam settings. She told me she had checked
them, and couldn't find a way to stop it. But after pushing the issue, with her
she found it. :)

Thanks for the response. I knew this wasn't the best place to ask about this,
but wanted to know if there was anything about "Outlook" that would cause this,
since she said it wasn't her AV program initially. Thanks again...

No worries and when in doubt the basic or general groups are the best places
to post questions that you don't know which specific category they should be
placed in or have more than one category that they could go in. Or that's my
opinion at any rate.
