Beside weink.com which is too expensive, does anyone have a source
selling fresh blank cartridges in the U.S.? Google didn't turn up
anything for me.

Maybe Iowa Ink?

Here's two

http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/canempty.html
http://www.atlascopy.com/cartridges/canon/

The cost for the blanks from either is about double what a filled cartridge
costs from outlets such as tylermartin.com. I've got blanks (still unused
from Atlascopy) and have used compatible cartridges from tylermartin.com.
Those cartridges are now being refilled with bulk ink from
http://www.alotofthings.com That's the least expensive way. Note that
alotofthings uses ink from Formulabs which is a top line supplier of
industrial inks. There are several refill sites offering Formulabs ink, but
http://www.alotofthings.com has the best pricing I've found. They also sell
cartridges, but I don't know if the ink is Formulabs. I'd suggest emailing
them. I know the name is somewhat strange, but they have a highly
interesting web site and my dealings with them have been highly
satisfactory.

Thank you very much for the information. alotofthings.com seems
broken. Ill search for it later if the addy may be off a bit. I
wouldnt mind trying their ink if atlantic doesnt work out. I have some
high resolution scans of test patterns I made with canon inks and easy
to over lay them with photoshop to see any shade contrasts. That is
the only true accurate way of telling.

the magenta shading is most important. That has to be spot on.
unless you like green skin and hair.

Thanks again for the information.

FWIW, Formulabs supplies ink to both Atlantic and Alotofthings. The
difference is cost. A six bottle set (8oz each) of bulk ink for BCI-6
cartridges would be $72.50 from Atlantic vs. $49.97 from Alotofthings. Since
the ink is the same the only other consideration is cost. Alotofthings is up
and running just fine. Try them again.

A word about Formulabs - they have several grades of desk top inks.
Question is - Do you want quality or a cheap price, you can only have
one!

Very interesting. I also have a canon I850. I am looking for a
reputable refilling source as well. I guess you are saying that
atlanticinkjet has the higher grade of ink as compared to
alotofthings.com because atlanitc charges more?

I see many things on the web for the same items at different prices.
It would be hard to tell who has the better quality or even the same
quality without first ordering. I believe they both have a
satisfaction money back guarantee so that would not be a problem.

I also have original scans of test patters of canon inks. Scanning
them and overlaying the colors is a great idea on determining the
match. I will do that mayself if and when I decide to order generic
ink.

I think it would be well worth it for me just to buy original canon
inks as I would not need a refill buy twice a year topps.

Really? Their web site doesn't indicate different grades of ink. How are you
privy to such insightful information? It might be possible that
alotofthings.com has lower prices for two reasons. 1.- They are located
within a few miles of the Formulabs facility which results in a savings on
shipping and the need to carry a larger inventory 2.- They just might be
more value oriented and want to build their business with loyal customers
who appreciate fair pricing rather than one time sales. Even if Formulabs
does have several grades of ink (which I don't believe they do), whatever
alotofthings.com supplies must be the better grade since the output with
that ink has been outstanding. I'll answer your question with another
question. Why can't you have only one? Selling price doesn't always
correspond to quality.

I totally agree. Just by comparing websites, I would say
alotofthings.com is truely a full service and information source of
desktop printing. They have great information and supplies as compared
to most other sites. I do not see them offering lower grade ink with
that dedication.

I printed out fonts from 12 all the way down to 1 font as a test. That
would be a true test to see if "NON Canon" inks bleed.
With a magnifying glass or high resolution scanner, the 1 font is
somewhat readable, about 50 percent. The 2 font is 100 percent
readable.

I just received a reply from alotofthings.com
They use the high quality formula labs ink and guarantee
a perfect match to OEM. Also for the BCI-3e compatibles, they
use the same ink as well. That is nice to know when new
cartridges are needed.

here is their reply to a question asking if they use formula labs ink
in the compats.

"That would depend on the particular cartridge.
As an example we do not carry any remanufactured HP so that of course
would not apply.

As far as Canon BCI-3e, BCI-6, most Epsons (except for 3000, 7500,
9000 & 10,000 ) are formulabs-Sensient inks.
As far as BCI-24 and BCI-21e these are American Ink Jet Inks within
the cartridges.

All of our inks are guaranteed to match OEM output in color and
longevity. They always have been."

Ray,

Thanks for the update. You just found out what a lot of us already know.
alotofthing.com has outstanding customer service. I think you will be well
pleased using them as a supplier. The next thing to consider is easy
refilling techniques. I've posted tips on this newsgroup several times, but
if you can't locate them send me an email and I'll foward a copy to you. I'm
glad to see the mention that their compatible BCI-3 and 6 and Epson
cartridges also are filled with Formulabs ink. For the users complaining
about third party cartridges, this should come as welcome news.

What does that have to do with the ink quality or customer service? What
difference does that make if you live in the USA?

Ahem...some of us live in Canada...
