Hi Bob :-)

speakers. I couldn't find anything in the Knowledgebase. Anyone know what
the problem is?

Try the following and see if it helps:

Go to "Settings" and "Control Panel" and then hit the "Sounds & Multimedia"
icon. Click on the "Sounds" tab, and scroll down in the window until you get
to the "Windows Explorer" heading. There's a list of events, such as
"Complete Navigation", "Empty Recycle Bin", etc. For the one Complete
Navigation, click the dropdown arrow and select "none", then OK out, and see
if that is the one that is causing the noise. If not, try to find the one
action or event that is associated with the scrolling in IE and select the
"none" to turn it off. If you can't turn it off, go through the list in the
dropdown until you find the one that is making that sound. Make a note of
the name of the .wav, then go into the Windows Explorer, lookup the Sounds
or Media Folder (it is in the WINNT Media Folder in my W2K), find the .wav
file and rename it. It won't bother you any more. :-)

Any "little speaker" icon in the list indicates a sound. You can remove any
or all
or change them if you like.

If these steps do not resolve your problem, please post back to this thread
with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Hi Jan:

Well, I changed all the IE6 sounds to "none" and the problem persists. Then
I opened Word and found that the sound I'm hearing in IE6 is also occuring
in Word 2000 when I scroll. So the problem does not appear to be limited to
IE6. Maybe it's related to the SP2 upgrade. I'll ask in the Win XP group.

Thanks for letting us know the Word problem as well. If you would, please
post back and let us know what the results were with your post in the XP
group.

Good luck!

The video card is built-in to the Intel mother board. I'm thinking the
problem could be the hardware instead of the software. Hard to tell.
