I have created a photo slide show using .jpg slides and inserted music files
to play for 50 or 100 slides using Powerpoint 2003, and have replayed both
on the same computer using Powerpoint viewer, or the powerpoint program(both
from the saved version in the computer and from the saved version on CD).
My problem is when I try to play on another computer using the viewer, the
program plays,...but no sound. The folks at Dell tell me that the Viewer
will only show the slides...no sounds or music will play. Can any of you
confirm this? If so, I would have to have the Powerpoint program on any
computer I wanted to show the presntation?
Thanks for helping.

Dell told you wrong. Your problem isn't the viewer. It is that you only
moved the presentation to the other computer, not the sound files. The only
sound files that are included with the presentation are WAV files. The rest
are linked and need to be moved with the presentation. For details, see this
PPT FAQ entry:
Sounds and Movies don't work when I move a presentation
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00059.htm

(Basic Process: Make a copy of the sound files in the same folder as your
presentation. Open the presentation. Remove the links to the old sound
files. Put in the links and animations for the new sound files. Save the
presentation. Send the whole folder to the other computer.)

Phil,

Use the File/Pack and Go feature. This will upload the files, viewer and
sound.

Hi Phil,

Since you are using PowerPoint 2003, simply do the following on the
computer where the sounds are playing fine within the presentation.

1) Open up presentation in PowerPoint 2003
2) File -> Package for CD
3) Use the "Copy to Folder" button to copy the presentation and all linked
content (such as your sound files) to a new folder
4) When done, simply copy the entire folder from this computer to the other
computer (by default the folder will include the Viewer as well).

If your originating system has the capability to burn CD's and is running
Windows XP, you can also use the "Copy to CD" feature in step #3 above
instead of copying to folder.

Dear Phil,

I am new to this website, so please bare with me. I don't know if anyone has answered your question. If they have, could you please forward the response to me. I too am trying to play a pp photo slide show (I am using powerpoint 2002) on other computers. Some computers have pp and some do not. I don't get sound AND the custom animation on SOME slides do not do what they do, when I play it on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated
