Sounds of a Spy, or Hijacker

For the last few months, I have heard the sound of a Door Opening on my
computer. It sounds as though someone is enterring. I have two anti-spyware
programs on my computer: Microsoft anti-spyware Beta, and Spybot. The Beta
is three days new. I am in communications with Spybot now, but I need help.
Please suggest. I am going Nuts.

Do you by chance use AOL or another ISP?

These sounds are likely caused by a Buddy signing on or signing off.

Just an educated guess because almost every single ISP uses these types of
sounds to inform the user that a friend has either signed on or signed off
their account.

Thanks Alan,
this is not the first time I heard that the sound is that of the ISP buddy
system, but sometimes the sound comes at a time when I am involved in
something and the sound acts as an "indicator." I know it sounds funny, but
the sound sometimes follows my actions. I know. This is why I put the
question of these incidents to a community forum. I wanted feedback. I feel
a little more comfortable. I will now leave the issue alone. Again, Thank
You.

Just as reinforcement--I believe Alan has the right answer here. It has
been long enough since I've seen this issue that I can't remember the
details, but in each case it has been something innocuous--nothing to worry
about.

You could dig through the sounds in the control panel sound applet until you
find the one you are hearing, and see what it is associated with--look for
the category of things Alan mentions first.

I have had the same problem but... msn used to startup in the backround, but
it would not be on the task tray. Take a look in your prosecsers for msn.

scratch that, I think that yahoo made that sound. Anyway its worth a shot to
look into it.
