Sounds echoed

I was recently trying to configure my speakers and
microphone to msn but after I ran it every sound comes
out of my speakers echoed. I have been through a lot of
the basic ways of getting my sound back including running
the configuration again but nothing seems to work.

I have Windows XP Home Edition if that makes any
difference.
