Sounds and program list

Couple of minor irritations:

1) On Start->Programs, all my programs are shown in a single column,
so I have to scroll up and down - is there a way (cf win95) to have
the program list display in 2 or more columns across the desktop ?

2) That Windows Startup fanfare plays really LOUDLY every time I boot
up - I've muted every volume control I can find, but, sure enough,
it's there again next time I boot, which is a bit embarrassing ina
busy office (I'm easily embarrassed).

Any advice appreciated

Right-click on the taskbar and select Properties, then the Advanced tab.
Scroll the window to the bottom and uncheck "Scroll the Programs menu".

Control Panel > Sounds and Multimedia > Sounds tab. Change the scheme to
"Quiet" or "No sound" or customize the current scheme by changing the
entry for "Start Windows" to "(None)".

You are now officially my hero.
