SoundRecorder Alternative

The SoundRecorder accessory in Windows XP only allows 60 sec of recording
time. Is there an alternative that lets the user control the time? I know
this capability exists in fancy music software packages, but all I want is
the ability to record to me hard drive for an hour or so. Free or cheap
would be appealing.

Hint: google "sound recorder"
 
Dont google a sound recorder,go to windows media home page,downloads,
scroll from the player download to encoder,download WM encoder 9 series.
The encoder lets you record as long as you want,select capture audio/video.
 
Sounds like what I am looking for, but the website info says it is for WM 9
and I have version 10. Any thoughts?
