SoundMAX digital audio problem

i have soundmax digital audio on my ASUS P4PE and i upgraded the drivers and
dont wish to roll them back but when i change to 4 channel sound and reboot
i do get 4 channel sound but once i reboot again it goes back to 2 speaker
stereo. why does this happen is there anything i can do to changethis or do
i have to roll back the driver??

Were the drivers from hardware manu site or winxp update? use hardware site
drivers only

i got the drivers from Asus as it is onboard sound.
