Can someone suggest a decent way of bencmarking a soundcard?

I'm trying to decide whether or not it's worth the hassle to reinstall my
SBLive card or just use the 6 channel onboard sound from my new MSI
mainboard.

Thanks!

It's a pretty subjective factor so the best results are probably obtained by
taking the extra hour or two to try both and listen.

They sound pretty close. I was just wondering what kind of hit my 1.3Ghz
Tbird CPU was taking by using the onboard sound instead of the SBLive.

Personally go for a card everytime, under the right circumstances it
would certainly be possible to notice the difference usually the onboard
is inferior to a card (unless the card is really really really old!)

Also most onboard sound systems do not allow you to adjust/gain the bass and
the treble through the windows sound mixer..I'd say put in the SB Live or
buy an Audigy 5.1 channel, or whatever other reputable sound card
manufacturer (Turtle Beach?)

On a side note if you do not have a set of 5.1 or 6.1
Surround sound or high quality speakers, there is not much difference. You
have to start with premium speakers or the sound card is irrelevent just
about. Sometimes games crash due to sound card problems.

How do you judge CPU usage using your ears?

Isn't my finger good enough to test the CPU heatsink temperature?

: )
