Dear Microsoft,
I want to know how to disable my headphone
jack. I had a jack inside and when it broke the whole
piece broke off, even the headphone jack unit itself. What
I basically want know is how do I turn it off where I can
hear out of the laptop speakers that are already on the
computer until I get it fixed.
Thank You,
B.G.

I'm assuming you had the type of jack that would cut off the sound to the
speakers when you plugged headphones into it. There is no way to do anything
about it from Windows; since the jack itself is broken it's a physical
problem.

Someone familiar with desoldering could remove the remnants of the old jack
and possibly replace it with a new one since these are fairly standard on
hi-fi's etc. Try a good TV engineer.

I find it difficult to believe that the problem is purely physical. Is there really no way to alternate between the headphones and the laptop mounted speakers, easily and without having to unplug the headphones every time? A taskbar-esque feature, perhaps? That is a convenience I was really hoping to find. I began searching these postings specifically for such an option within the OS configurations. I find it terribly innefficient having to bury my hand back there, in the mess of cords, yanking out my headphones just to switch back to the speakers.

Hoping for a solution
Hondo
