Try installing the modem using the correct .inf file (might be under
"drivers" from the modem manufacturers website) and that should fix the
problem (as well as provide optimum performance and functionality for the
modem. Anything else (such as AT commands to put in the extra commands box)
is a work around for not having the correct inf for the modem.
In the device manager entry for the modem, there's a modem speaker
volume control for it. You can turn it all the way down to off.
If that still doesn't work, look on that dialog (might be one of the
other tabs) for someplace to enter additional "initialization
strings". Try adding:
ATm0
The AT code "m" controls the built-in speaker. m0 is off, m1, m2, m3
are the volume levels. Some modems only support m0 and m1 (off or on
respectively).
