I am using PowerPoint XP. I have made a presentation with music that works
just fine on the main frame. When I "packed and go" and then unpacked on my
laptop it will not play the sound. I can play other sounds on my laptop
just fine... So any ideas as to what could be wrong or what I could do to
get sound files to play on second computer...

I tried using both MP3 and wav files. Neither would work on second computer
but all worked fine in original presentation.

Thanks Sonia. When you pack and go to another computer though isn't
everything included to unpack on the new computer including the sound files.
The sound files were saved in the same folder as the presentation

That's the way it's supposed to work, but I never trust Pack and Go. If the
sounds work on your system but not on the other and the links are *not*
broken, then the problem is more complex and will require more work. I
recommend trying the link I gave you and if it doesn't correct the problem
then come on back and we'll point you to more possibilities.

Just copying them to the same folder doesn't do the trick. They must be in
the same folder *before* you insert them in the presentation. However,
which mplayer did you load? You haven't mentioned which version of Windows
you are running, but if it is 2000 or XP, go to Start > Run and type in
mplay32.exe and try playing the files. Do they play? If it is Windows 98
or ME, type in mplayer.exe and try to play them. The reason for this test
is that this is the player that PowerPoint uses - - it doesn't use the
Windows Media Player.

On my laptop I am using windows ME with office xp. I did type in
mplayer.exe and they didn't play the files. the error i got was
mmsystem281 - this file could not be played, Check the filename or install
a driver that supports this type of file.

Hi. I made up a huge powerpoint presentation for my mom and dad's
40th wedding anniverssary coming up in 2 months. I started making it
in March of 2002 and have put a lot of hours into it since that time.
I finally got it working the way I wanted it to. It incorporates
video files, music, etc etc and is about 13 minutes long.

I recently tried running the presentation and to my chagrin found that
it won't play any of the sound files or video files anymore! I even
tried making a new slide within the presentation and it won't play any
files anymore. I recently installed the 'windows update' for Windows
XP so I am assuming it has to do with that installation, since I never
ran the presentation since installing that. Any ideas on how to fix
this problem??? Please help as I am so scared that all of the time I
put into this presentation has been wasted!

Chris
