Sound Volume different after changing computers.

Hey guys I recently upgraded my computer to a P4, 3ghz. I used to have an
old P2 533. Anyway what I don't understand is with my old computer I had my
stereo hooked up to it as I produce electronic music, and so when I got the
new computer I hooked up the same stereo, but now the volume is much lower?
I have to turn the stereo up almost twice the volume it used to be to get
the same sound out of it? I tried looking at the sound/audio settings but im
not the best with computers and wasn't sure. Another thing I also noticed is
the bass is almost none existent.

For starters your old PC might have had a dedicated sound card and this a
lowly on-board sound. Read the manual and you might find out that it's not
so lowly. A lot of decent boards are coming out with 7.1 surround and all
you need to do is configure it to do so. If your PC came with a sound card
then you should make sure to install any drivers and, why not, any software
that came with it because you might find you're able to accomplish your
desired sounds more easily with their software than you will with just your
PC.

What are you playing your music with? Try adjusting the EQ in there. As for
the sounds...

Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices Applet > Stay on
the Volume tab > click on Speaker Volume and turn the sound sliders all the
way to the top. Click OK. Make sure you have the device volume all the way
up as well on that same tab. This shouldn't matter but if you click the
advanced tab you can go ahead and turn up CD volume etc.

Finally, do you have a volume +/- button on your keyboard? If you do then
press the + side of it.

You said you "upgraded" your computer or you purchased a new PC?
If you purchased a new PC it will very likely have a different soundcard
installed. Different soundcards, different outputs. Check your settings
using the Control Panel>Sounds and Audio
Also, check Volume Control at the Sound icon (next to the clock).
