Sound, Video, Game controllers (Drivers)

Hi guys,

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 running Windows XP Pro SP2 with a TBS Santa
Cruz Sound card. It is working perfectly until I bought and installed a
Logictech Orbit AF webcam. During installation, it screwed up my sound
drivers rendering my PC without sound.

When I checked the device manager, the device drivers have yellow exclamtion
marks on them and the device status have code 39. I have reinstalled the
latest driver for this sound card and reinstalled the drivers but XP won't
let me saying that it cannot find a driver better than I currently have.

To make matters worse, the Dell technician I called uninstalled the other
lines as well such as Audio codecs, video codecs, legacy, etc. None of my
restore points work.

I suspect that the registry has something to do with the new drivers not
being reinstalled. Can you guys suggest something to bring back the sound to
my PC along with the XP audio and video codecs short of reinstalling Windows
XP?

If all that's been done to your system (and that's QUITE a lot - including
the removal of all those drivers), have you considered a Dell System
Restore?

In other words, pulling out the card you added, rebooting to clear out any
leftovers, and then finally rebooting again into the Dell System Recovery
Mode at bootup (which will restore your system to the day it was shipped -
but you will loose everything you installed, afterwards - so be sure to back
that stuff up).
 
Did you uninstall Any/All sound devices listed under Sound, Video and Game
Controllers in Device Manager while in Safe Mode. If not:
Boot to Safe Mode > Device Manager.
Expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
Uninstall/Remove Any/All devices listed that are related to your sound device
and any duplicate devices.
Close out of DM and open either MyComputer or Explorer.
Delete the contents of:
c:\documents and settings\your user name folder\local settings\temp
c:\windows\temp
c:\windows\prefetch
Close out and reboot.

Windows will/should redetect and reinstall your sound device drivers.

What "other lines" did the "tech" have you uninstall?

Brian, the guy removed all his audio and video codecs, too. Plus none of
his System Restore points work anymore, either, for that matter. So how
much of his system is really intact?
 
Point:
1) Reinstalling the audio device should include the codec's needed.
2) Without details on why SR doesn't work for the OP, no one can say it doesn't
work.
3) No one can say since there are no details on exactly what was attempted to
resolve the issue.
