sound stops working

Problem...
Sound works fine after PC is booted up in the
morning....after a while..maybe an hour or so..the sound
just stops working. No sounds will play from any source.
This is on a DELL C400 laptop. After rebooting everything
is fine for a while and then it happens all over again.
Sound drivers have been reinstalled to no avail. The
motherboard has ever been replaced....problem still
exists. HELP!!!
