Sound settings will not save

OS Win2k Pro with SP4 and all updates to date.

The problem I have is with the Play Control dialog box all the
controls stay where I have set them but the Wave Balance Volume keeps
setting it's self back to 1 point above zero, which menes I need to
keep resetting it, maybe it was a missing key in the register but I do
not know ware to start, so any help would be nice.

This problem only started last week and has been ok for over 3 years
and I have tried a new sound card but same problem.

What happens if you logon as a new user? (create a new account in 'User and
Passwords').
