a worthy, open source alternative for SoundForge...

Boogieman,
Then why bother recommending it here? This group is supposed to be
for the discussion of freeware. There are several shareware groups
where you can discuss shareware so there's no need to do so here. If
you can't suggest a freeware program, it's better to refrain from
replying at all. Somebody else may come up with a freeware suggestion.
