I dont even know if this is the right place for this problem but i added 2 gigs of ram last week and ever since then whenever i play games my CPU has been working harder than before and asus probe keps sayin that its too hot. also when im playin games or listening to music the sound stops and usually doesnt comeback till i log off. could it be a problem with the ram? my MB can handle 4 gigs so i dont think its a problem. P4 3.0 gh. sound card built in. anyways, any help is appreciated

Did you replace your old ram with 2gig ram?
How much ram did you have before upgrade?
Are you sure you put in ram type that is compatible with your MB?
Does your system recognize the total ram that you have physically installed?

If the above is fine then it'd be worth checking windows task manager to see which process takes up cpu and mem usage

Also, does your system performance improve when you switch back to ram that you used to use (before upgrade)?

You sure you didn't dislodge cable to CPU fan when you fitted RAM? Take side off when computer is on and check fan is spinning.

yeah i replaced the ram. i had 512 before. yeah its in properly and it is recognised. i tried the old ram again and the sound didnt go off but the cpu still got hot. asus probe sounds off at 73 cel. is that really too hot?
the cpu fan is spinning. i jus checked.
but why would the sound go off if the ram is te problem?

well most prescott core P4's can run at over 100 degrees without causing a shutdown, so 70 degrees, while being overly warm shouldn't be to much of a problem. Not enough to cause problems like you have anyway.
