Sound problem

This probably isn't the right forum for this question, but I already
tried everywhere else I could think of...

Every time I reboot the PC the speaker volume sliders under Volume
Control reset themselves to zero.

I can click on Speaker Volume, then Restore Defaults, and this brings
the sound back until next time I reboot.

This obviously isn't a major problem, but it is nevertheless a nuisance.

Any ideas?

As a test, double-click the speaker icon in the Notification area, click
Options, Properties, and under Playback, deselect Microphone and Line-In.

Thanks for your reply, but I don't see Microphone and Line-In under
Playback.

I see Volume Control, Wave, SW Synth, CD Player (which are selected) and
Input Monitor and PC Speaker (which aren't selected).

Any further suggestions?
