Sound not working

I'm not sure exactly why this is happening, but I can't
hear any sound from my computer other than midi files.
Everything seems to be fine, and it was working fine until
earlier this week, and I've been looking over everything
since. The only thing that I can think of that would have
triggered this is that I played Quake (original), using
WinQuake. The cd background audio still works for that
game, but not the sound effects, and I can still hear midi
files, as well as test beeps and audio with PC Doctor.
Can somebody PLEASE help me...maybe I need to reinstall my
drivers or something, I've tried a few things but I'm not
sure on how to reinstall drivers or even if that would
help. Thank you!

I can play any sound on my computer while running a pc
doctor audio test. wtf??
