Sound mixing do not work

I try to mix a music file with the sound file from the video, but I can only
have either music or sound. Why?
I have tried everything.

If you tried everything then that means you tried dragging the music file to
the Audio/Music portion of the timeline? If not that's your solution.

I will try to be more specific:

I have the original sound file from the video recorder and I have added
music sound on the music channel - and I try to lower the sound file and
increase the music during the recording- but I only can have either sound
from the camera or music - not alternate during the movie.
What am I doing wrong?

It doesn't sound like your doing anything wrong - it should work as you
described.
You could try creating your movie in 2 passes.
First one with all other modifications in place (transitions, titles etc...)
save movie to HD
Then import the saved movie and add your music.

Dear Wojo,
I just tryed that but it does not help i.e. do I do something wrong draging
the slide left and right under playing the move? Its the way it should be
done I suppose (from Sound/muisc ----> Music) etc?--

Hi Akkifriman

Sounds to me like you are trying to have the music louder in some parts
of your movie and movie louder in others?

If so it is possible but it has to be done manually.

Here is how I do it.

1st ensure both the movie and the sound are split where you want to
change the sound
[In timeline select the movie tack; move the cursor to where you want
to have the change; press the split button under the preview window
(second from the very right)]
[next select the audio/music track; mover the cursor to the same
timespot; press the split button]

2nd you can adjust the volume of the movie audio track and the music
track indepenently. In the section where you want the movie audio to be
high
[right mouse click the movie audio track and slect volume - set it to high]
[right mouse click the music track and select volume - set it to low]

This can be done independently for each split section along the timeline.

You will need to experiment a bit to get it right and where I needed
fade in and out I split the movie into several parts and changed the
sound gradually across 5 increments (0.2 second lots for 1 second)

Its a bit tedious, but it works.

There are other products that manage sound variations along a movie
timeline better (eg Moviexone) and if you intend to do a lot of work
like this you may wish to consider them - of course they represent
another product to learn and have their own issues.

Hope this helps

Hi Robm,
many thanks for your reply, I did not know I had to split also the music and
sound i different scenes, I only hade the movie splitted.
I will try and I agree other programs like Pinnacle do this more smoothly.

Thanks

ahhh now I understand.
Yes eeyore is correct. You need to split the audio as well if you want to
adjust volume levels in certain areas.
This way you can also completely mute the volume in spots where you don't
want to hear the audio from the video clip or the audio from the separate
audio clip.
