Over the past several months, many of the sounds associated with Outlook have stopped playing. They were playing previously, and now no longer do.
There may be more sounds, but the ones that I know are not playing are Critical Stop and Exclamation. New Mail Notification and Reminder do work (so the important ones do).
What's strange is that these two non-working ones work fine when played through Control Panel (i.e., the file is not corrupted) and do work in other Office apps (although not consistently).
Maybe it is an MSOffice-wide problem, but I thought I could start here as I couldn't find anything on-line about this.
I'm running Outlook 2002 SP3.
