Sound icon in taskbar not appearing

HerbWD

Even though I've set both my taskbar settings and my
sound settings to show my sound icon in the taskbar at
all times, it does not appear.

Any idea why this is happening or how to fix it?
 
I have followed these instructions per my original post --
the icon remains missing in spite of selecting "Place
volume icon in the taskbar."

Help!
