Sound Freezes

I recently upgraded to Service Pack 2, and since then I've been having a very
annoying sound issue. It doesn't matter what I'm playing sound on (be it
Winamp, Real Player, Windows Media, a DVD or Quicktime) if I have other
programs open and try to work while having sound, at one point the sound
freezes and doesn't come back until I reboot. This is extremely frustrating,
I have no been able to determine what the problem is. My husband suggests we
need more RAM, but if that's the solution, why did the problem only start up
after we went to Service Pack 2?

It's not ram like you said. I would try new sound drivers or reinstall the
old ones. Remove your sound device out of the device manager and reboot and
let windows reinstall the drivers.

I need a little help in discerning exactly what to remove. There are about 13
items listed under "Sound, video and game controllers". Do I remove them all?
They are as follows:

ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio
ATI WDM Rage Theater Video
ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec
ATI WMD Specialized PCD Codec
ATI WMD TV Audio Crossbar
ATI WDM TV Tuner
Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio Drivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Pinnacle Linx
SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio
Video Codecs

I won't want to make any mistakes and cause a larger problem.

I recently upgraded to Windows SP2 and since then every time I touch the left
"ctrl" button on my keyboard it mutes my system volume. I've tried
everything I know how to do....I can't find any information on it in anything
about hot keys or shortcuts. I don't understand this problem.
Please...somebody help me fix this annoying problem!!!
