Sound files no longer copy into presentations

I was going great guns inserting sound and music files into my presentations. Now, when I attempt to put them in, it looks like they're there - but they don't play! Previously installed sounds play fine - I can even move them to different pages and they work, but nothing new works at all.
I've re-installed Powerpoint and run the repair function. Both claim that the software has installed correctly

Any ideas?

John,

Have you installed any sound programs lately? or for that matter, any video
players, recorders, add-ins, editing tools, or other program that may be
affecting the files?

Are the old files Wavs that were embedded? or other formats that might be
linked?

Use the software that came with your CD drive when you want to burn a CD.
Save the Pack and Go files to hard disk. Them unpack them to hard disk.
Finally, burn them to CD.

Nothing new installed. I shut down the computer one night, and the next
morning, any newly added music (.wma) or other sound files (.wav) didn't
work. The music files are from Windows Media Player.
I'm also trying to work on a Friends computer, which is running Powerpoint
2002. I can't get the .wma files to play back on this one either, although
it does seem to load and play wav. files just fine.
ALSO, the pack and go on the 2002 doesn't seem to have a way to burn the
presentation to a CD. I try to "pack and go" to the E drive and it won't
let me ("incorrect function").

Thanks, but I still can't load any NEW sounds into Powerpoint
As I mentioned in my first note, I've done a re-install and a fix. Do you think it would help if I completely UNINSTALLED and re-installed Powerpoint? Would it help get this function back?

I would start with some basics, John.

The fact your wav's won't play suggests your MCI settings are bad, see if
something has happened to them. I don't know why it would manifest just
with the new stuff and not the old, but ...
**The Myers Multimedia FAQ by Austin Myers (PowerPoint MVP)

The fact the wma won't play on your friends media player suggests that file
may be bad, rather than your PowerPoint. But that doesn't explain the wav
not playing ...

I might also try to round trip the presentation through html, in case some
random voodoo has corrupted the presentation.
**HTML "Round-tripping" to repair corruption

Hope the combination of these takes care of your sound issues.
